Inquiry: Why the Walk-Up Window in Lubbock Ran Out of Tortillas Before Kickoff

A Saturday breakfast collapse on Texas Tech game day is being treated as a supply story, because it is.

LUBBOCK, Texas — By 9:40 a.m. the walk-up window on University Avenue had a handwritten sign and a line that did not believe the sign. The masa, a worker said, had not arrived. The game was still hours away. The conference, as of press time, had no jurisdiction.

Three other counters within two blocks posted similar notes before noon. None of them blamed Joey McGuire. McGuire was not asked. The Red Raiders were hosting Sam Houston. That was the football. This was the bread.

A man in a blank red cap called it "investigative" while holding an empty paper tray. He declined to spell his name. A driver for a regional distributor said a lot of product had gone west toward El Paso on Friday and that was all he was going to say on a Saturday.

Adjacent will continue to ask about the masa. We will not pretend this is a coverage story. It is a Saturday in Lubbock with no tortillas at the window that always has tortillas.
